In this video, I'm going to show you exactly how I grew my Instagram from **0 to 200,000 followers** in just **8 months**. The best part is, this was all done organically—so I didn't spend any money on ads or buy any followers. I did it all while having a full-time job. I'm going to break down the exact framework I used, including how to work the algorithm, the most important metrics you need to track, and how to capture trends before they explode. **I'd watch this video to the end because the last strategy is basically the most practical thing you can do right now on Instagram.** --- **Hey friends!** If you're new here, my name is Ken. Eight months ago, I started a brand new Instagram account with zero followers. Today, I have over **200,000 followers**. But here's the thing: I'm not a social media guru. In fact, before I started this account, I was clueless when it came to Instagram or social media in general. I was that one videographer who spent **8 hours** making a reel, posted it, and then got **two likes**—one of them was my mom. Throughout this journey of testing and trying with this brand new account, I kind of understand the Instagram algorithm better and create content that people actually want to see. Today, I'm going to share with you everything I've learned along the way, so let's **dive right in**. ### 1. Understanding the Algorithm The first thing you need to understand is how social media algorithms work today. Back in the day, it was all about the number of followers. The more followers you had, the more your content would be pushed out to people. But because of the rise of TikTok, which saw a lot of success, every social media platform is now using algorithms that focus on **interest** instead of just followers. What does that mean? Today, you can actually train the algorithm to work in your favor. I would argue that this is the best time to grow your social media because small accounts can still grow substantially. Social media today loves series—like "Day 1 of 30 days taking photos of strangers" or "Day 1 of 30 days trying to make $10,000 a month." Social media loves this kind of series because it establishes your niche and the interests that will keep people coming back to see your content over and over again. Once you understand the social media algorithm, the way to grow is pretty simple. The game plan is straightforward: you want to get **one to two pieces of content that go viral**. This means the algorithm recognizes you in that niche and interest, and then you create a series on top of it. If you notice in my content, every week I try to revisit my viral content once or twice, or sometimes just once a month. I revisit the same hook that has been doing very well for me because the algorithm already understands that this type of content works for this type of account. So, all I have to do is mix it up—change the caption a little bit, change the content a little bit, change the B-roll a little bit. But in general, you want to create a series based on something that is already working. That's why you see some accounts, like those that talk to strangers, keep doing the same thing. The algorithm rewards them because they create the same series over and over again. Now, this doesn't mean you have to stick to that niche all the time. Once you finish the series, you can start venturing out and trying different things. But once the algorithm recognizes you, why not milk the most out of it? I hope this makes sense to you. Basically, what I'm trying to say is that your game plan should be testing content. Whatever piece of content goes somewhat more viral than what you have in the past—like if every post has 200 to 300 views, but one piece of content got 1,000, 2,000, or even 6,000 views—that is one of your outliers. Create a series around that piece of content, making different hooks around that niche, and scale it until you can't scale anymore. ### Content Research Strategy On the next point, I'm going to show you how you can do content research so you can test different things until one or two hit. This is my content research strategy that I'm using today—not yesterday or last month. First of all, why should you do content research? Can’t you just always create unique content, being yourself and authentic? Yes, you can still be authentic, but you need to do content research to understand what kind of content works on the platform you're trying to grow. Everyone's doing it—even the best of the best, like Gary Vee and Mr. Beast. They are looking for outliers on their platforms every single day and figuring out what type of video they want to do. For example, in one of Mr. Beast's interviews, he mentioned comparing a **$50 meal with a $5,000 meal**. That kind of content isn't original; he got ideas from a couple of pieces of content in the past that went viral. Now, I want to share with you the exact content research strategy I use. Did you know that Instagram actually shows you what kind of content they are looking for or what kind of content you should create for your niche? If you go on the dashboard and click on **Inspiration**, there's a bunch of content you can take a look at. The second thing I like to do is go into the same dashboard but look at **trending audio**. I search for all the trending sounds, and whatever sounds interesting to me, I click on it and see what other people have created with that sound. The third way to do content research is to go to the **Explore** page and type in my niche—like "Fitness," "Instagram growth," "social media growth," or "make money online." Then, I start exploring all this content. I look for content creators with around **100,000 or fewer followers** and identify the outliers again. What are outliers? They are one or two pieces of content that perform significantly better than others. For instance, if a content creator has **10,000 views** on every video they post, but one or two pieces of content got **a million views**, those are outliers. I save those outliers into a collection on Instagram. Every time I try to make my own content, I go through the collection and figure out what kind of content I like to create. Sometimes, I can take inspiration from their hooks, their POV on the caption, or the text. Why should I start a new piece of content from scratch when I can see what's already working? ### Important Metrics to Track Lastly, what's the most important metric that you need to track? According to the CEO of Instagram, he stated that **shares per reach** is the most important metric to pay attention to. But what exactly is shares per reach? It's a metric on Instagram that measures how many people share a post via direct messages compared to the total number of people who saw it. In other words, sharing is the most important metric you need to track. It's even more important than saves, likes, or comments. This is one of the reasons why memes have been doing so well lately, and even big accounts have been trying different strategies with memes. A lot of the time, people go to social media not to be serious with educational content all the time; they want to escape, run away, and laugh. So, all this meme and funny content is very shareable—especially if you slap a niche on top of it. If people can relate to that, they will share it with their friends, colleagues, and everyone. Before you post your next piece of content, try to think if that content is shareable. ### Consistency is Key The last thing I want to share with you—and you probably won't like me saying this because I've been saying it all the time—is that you need to be **consistent**. Content creation is getting pretty competitive. Everyone wants to create content now; everyone wants to build their personal brand, and they should. However, it's getting harder and harder. People who have been in the game longer usually get better leverage. If it were easy, everyone would already be doing it and be famous. It's just like supply and demand; it's not always the easiest thing. Consistency is actually one of the hardest things for people when they want to compete in content creation. If you find this valuable and want to dive deeper into growing your Instagram account, we've created something special: it's called the **Instagram Mastery Group**. This is basically like a beta group—it's a very tight group where I do training and coaching. It's group coaching, but at the moment, everyone who joins the group call can basically have almost a one-on-one call with me. We can dive deeper into your individual account and figure out what we can do to make your account better. Inside these groups, I also share with you all the new trends, and this is important because trends change every single week, even every single day. You want to keep up with it. We started this beta group a few months ago, and we already have some successes. One of our students grew her account to almost **50,000 followers** in a pretty short amount of time. We have some students who applied some of our trending strategies and are already getting **700,000 views** on one piece of content. One of our students even got almost **100 million views**, which is insane! If you enjoyed this, you'll love this one and this one, where I show you all the tips and tricks on how to grow your Instagram, especially in the beginning stages from **0 to 100,000 followers**. See you in the next one!
