# Presentation on the BNT5 Negative Ionization Air Cleaner Hello, we are **Tinder** from Evidence of Secondary and High School. I'm Hangmai, and I'm from Hong Kong. As you can see, I'm holding a machine that can be used for measuring the concentration of **PM2.5**. ## Understanding PM2.5 First, let's understand what PM2.5 is. PM stands for **Particulate Matter**, and they come in different sizes. Particles that are 2.5 micrometers or lower are very harmful to breathe, as they can enter and damage your lungs. PM2.5 is already very small—2.5 to 10 times thinner than a human hair—so you can't see it, and it can be vacuumed by general air cleaners. With this button, and just after one to two seconds, we have got our result. Normally, the amount of PM2.5 in a small area is divided into three groups: - **0 to 50**: Safe - **51 to 200**: Normal - **201 to 300**: Unsafe or even dangerous At the moment, the amount of PM2.5 in this room is **36**, which means it's safe to breathe. However, if you go outside, the statistics will be much higher than normal. According to research in 1996, **46%** of dust that was harmful for breathing was decreased after two hours of treatment with negative air ions. ## Our Solution: BNT5 Negative Ionization Air Cleaner Based on this work, we came up with the idea to make a machine that reduces the amount of PM2.5 with indoor ventilation using ions. We call it the **BNT5 Negative Ionization Air Cleaner**. Now, my partner and I will show you how it works. ### How Does the Machine Work? According to Coulomb's Law in 1785, the force of interaction between charges is attractive if the charges have opposite signs and repulsive if they have the same sign. Since PM2.5 contains many metallic particles that can generate positive charges, using negative ions can help reduce and neutralize PM2.5. The fan wings we are using are made of plastic, which can generate negative ions while operating. The PM2.5 particles are filtered in the direction of the wind blowing, allowing most of the dust to be filtered out, resulting in an area with safe air for inhalation. It's easy to operate the machine. As you can see, there's a small button on the top of the machine. By switching that on, it automatically measures the air quality. Usually, it takes **5-10 seconds** for the measuring process. As you can see here, the **green LED** shows that the air inside this room is safe for breathing. But if I light this up and put it near the device, you can see the LED lights turn **red**, and the fan starts blowing, drawing the air inside. By doing that, the fine dust will stick to the ions and will be filtered out, making the air safer for inhalation. To improve the cleaning process, there's a switch for **auto rotation**, allowing the device to purify the air while rotating in a circular shape. However, there are some limitations to what this device can do, and further improvement is required. ## Commercial Application Next, my friend will talk about the proper styles and commercial applications of the invention. This is a portable device that can be placed in different room sizes, suitable for small rooms. It also has an affordable price for most customers, especially in developing countries such as Vietnam and Dubai. Moreover, it's a versatile device that can combine with a sensor system measuring the air quality in the room. Here are new features compared to conventional air cleaners: - This machine can handle PM2.5 using ions from the direct current installed inside this cleaner. - It has different customizability depending on the area of the room. - It's really cheap, effective, and convenient, with a plastic fan that helps to vacuum PM2.5. - It has a switch that allows the whole machine to spin around and approach PM2.5. Last but not least, the cleaning process can be activated or deactivated automatically depending on the concentration of PM2.5. The plastic fan automatically adjusts to clean the air when the light is not green and stops when the process finishes. In the near future, this machine will be operated with more user-friendly features. Furthermore, it will be remotely controlled via apps on the user's smartphone. In addition, it will have a sensor to calculate the total time that the machine needs to clean PM2.5 in a specific area automatically. At the end of our project, thank you for listening!
