Dr. Jaffe, if you spoke on recommending cleaning the air in your home or workspace with an ionizer, can you share what type of ionizer you would recommend? Well, with regard to ionizers, there are only two kinds: the ones that are **point-to-space** and those that are **point-to-plate**. The difference is that you want **point-to-space**; you want the ions to come out into the air. You do not want them to be driven off of a plate where you smell the fresh ozone, an oxidizing substance that some companies make into a virtue. Our ionizer will help you smell like bleach—well, don't do that! So, I want a **point-to-space ionizer**. You can get that from BiAir or other companies, usually in combination. So, you have an ionizer, a charcoal filter, and a HEPA or OPA filter. This way, you remove particles, you remove all metals, and you charge the air. For whatever reason, buildings that have air conditioning have an excess of positive ions and a deficiency of negative ions. When I travel, I do have a personal **point-to-space ionizer** that I put in the hotel room where I'm staying or in the home where I'm staying with friends. It's a small, compact unit—not very expensive—and you can travel with it. When you're at home, though, you need for each room a device that will exchange the air often and is a combination of HEPA filter, carbon filter, and ionizer. After you've used one of these for a short period of time, if you have them near the wall of a room, you will notice on the wall that there is condensation—there's particulate matter that you would have been breathing in that has been drawn to the surface of the wall because of the ionizer action. So, you want **point-to-space**, usually in combination with HEPA or OPA and carbon filtration. There is a new device called a **molecular** which not only traps the particles but electrolytically destroys them, so that's another level to air cleaning for people who are exquisitely sensitive and/or in very polluted environments. In summary, **point-to-space ionizers**, either compact travel units or room-based, are essential. My view is that whatever room you spend time in, each of those rooms needs to have clean air for you to breathe, and we recommend these combination units with **point-to-space ionizers** to clean the air.
